Founded in 2018, Irish National Opera champions Irish creativity in its casting, its choice of creative teams and in its commitment to the presentation of new operas. INO’s productions have included many of opera’s greatest works – Le Nozze di Figaro, Aida and Madama Butterfly, as well as titles less often performed in Ireland alongside an exploration of Baroque Repertoire – Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Vivaldi’s Griselda.

In its first 24 months INO produced 72 performances of 14 operas in 24 Irish venues as well as appearing internationally at The Barbican Theatre in London and at Dutch National Opera’s Opera Forward Festival in Amsterdam. These international appearances have been with INO’s FEDORA-Generali Prize winning production of Donnacha Dennehy and Enda Walsh’s The Second Violinist, a co-production with Landmark Productions, that was premiered at 2017’s Galway International Arts Festival.

INO’s productions have been broadcast on RTÉ lyric fm, webcast on RTÉ Player and OperaVision, and its street-art opera, Drive By Shooting by Brian Irvine and John McIlduff (a co-production with Dumbworld), was screened at Operadagen Festival in Rotterdam, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Dublin Fringe Festival in 2018.

INO works to promote the future of opera as an art form through their professional development and outreach programmes. The ABL Aviation Opera Studio, provides a platform for emerging opera artists in several disciplines (singers, conductors, composers, directors, répétiteurs) while their outreach programme works to reach and engage new audiences.

Irish National Opera is funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
