Ever since the opening night of Vatroslav Lisinski's opera Love and Malice in 1846, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb has been home to the most important repertoire of opera, ballet and drama in the country. It was at the heart of the Croatian national revival movement thanks to works like Gotovac's Ero the Joker, and continues to shape the cultural identity of the capital and beyond.
