The Fair at Sorochyntsi – 'Ty ne grusti moj milyj'

Extracts | Mussorgsky

Opera meets the city and the city meets opera. In the Komische Oper Berlin’s pop-up operas, select scenes from the company’s repertoire are performed in urban locations around the German capital, giving its inhabitants the chance to experience this memorable music up close. So far, more than 350,000 people have been reached through the scheme.

In this video filmed on the Admiral Bridge in Kreuzberg, Mirka Wagner sings Parasy’s dumka ‘Ty ne grusti moj milyj’ (‘Don’t be sad, my darling’) from Modest Mussorgsky’s unfinished comic opera The Fair at Sorochyntsi. She’s accompanied by Juri Tarasenok on the bajan accordion and joined by Leonore von Berg as the Little Pig, Ben Utke as the Big Pig and Hoppe Hoppinsky as the Pig on Stilts.

Watch the full performance of Mussorgsky’s opera Khovanshchina on OperaVision from 24 April to 25 October 2019.
