Hineraukatauri

New Zealand Opera shares this special recording to karanga (call out) to you from Aotearoa New Zealand and welcome World Opera Day as one of the first countries to see the sun rise, globally coming together to celebrate the power and beauty of music.

‘Hineraukatauri’ is a very special waiata (song) written by Dame Hinewehi Mohi and Jaz Coleman, arranged by Jess Segal and Mark W Dorrell, and inspired by Dame Hinewehi Mohi’s daughter, Hineraukatauri, who has overcome many challenges in her life, reflecting the importance of music as an outlet for emotion and for healing. The passion and power of this music reflects the challenges we've collectively faced, and the vulnerability we've all experienced during these uncertain times.
