Opernstudio NRW
The Opera Studio NRW is a success story: Nearly 90% of its graduates secure engagements at German opera houses, while the rest work successfully as freelancers. Four renowned opera houses – Dortmund Opera, Aalto Music Theater Essen, Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, and Wuppertal Opera – enable particularly talented young singers and répétiteurs to transition into the professional world.
Members develop a broad repertoire from opera and operetta to musical theatre, concert and art song. Masterclasses with renowned instructors such as Claudia Barainsky, Helen and Klaus Donath, Helmut Deutsch, Johannes Martin Kränzle, Ann Murray, Lothar Odinius, George Petrou, Roberto Rizzi-Brignoli, Bo Skovhus, Roman Trekel, and Edith Wiens are a key component.
Cooperations with the Cologne University of Music and Dance and Folkwang University of the Arts Essen complement the two-year programme. Each season concludes with an orchestra concert.
The Opera Studio is designed for a maximum of eight singers and two répétiteurs. Recently, around 1,000 applications were received for seven positions.
The Opera Studio NRW is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia.
