Smetana
Bedřich Smetana was the first major Bohemian composer. His influence extended far beyond his compatriots, amongst whom numbered his friend Antonín Dvořák, another great 19th Czech composer. Becoming totally deaf didn’t prevent Smetana from composing masterpieces of the Czech repertoire, such as the world famous cycle of six symphonic poems Má vlast (My country), whose sublime music depicts the landscapes and legends of Bohemia. He composed 8 operas, the most famous of which is still today The Bartered Bride.
Thanks to collaborations with National Theatre Prague and National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, OperaVision showcases some of Smetana's lesser-known works, such as Libuše, Hubička (The Kiss) or Dvě vdovy (The Two Widows).
