Emerging artists, mezzo-soprano Maria Polańska and bass Valentin Ruckebier, appeared at the end of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, singing the roles of the prostitute Sonyetka and the steward of the convict camp. Their entrance marks the opera’s final dramatic climax: upon discovering that she has been tricked  and mocked, Katerina pushes Sonyetka into the river and jumps in after her. They both drown, while the parade of prisoners continues.

Baritone Constantin Moței sang the role of a policeman in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk at Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where his character, along with the other officers, complains about not being invited to Katerina and Sergei's wedding. They attempt to distract themselves by harassing a socialist schoolteacher for his so-called atheism.
