A special event to mark World Opera Day on 25 October 2025, OperaVision streams live from South Korea, Daegu Opera’s production of Mozart’s masterpiece as part of its Global Young Artist Projects.
Le nozze di Figaro, filled with love and jealousy, power and class conflict, is a window on the complexities of human hopes and desires through Mozart’s genius music. For World Opera Day, Daegu Opera offers a positive vision of the future of opera on a global stage. The production features emerging artists under the age of 35 from seven countries: South Korea, United States, Canada, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Italy and Spain. Selected through a competitive audition process, these artists have gathered in Daegu, transcending language and cultural boundaries to unite through the language of Mozart. Each performer stands at a pivotal moment in their artistic journey, and this stage offers a glimpse into their brightest potential. This is not just a performance of a well-known classic, but a rare opportunity to witness live the universality of opera - alive and kicking all over the world, and in good hands for the future.

STORY
Act I
Figaro and Susanna’s Wedding Room. Figaro and Susanna, servants to the Count and Countess, are preparing for their wedding. But trouble arises when Figaro learns the Count plans to seduce Susanna using his supposed feudal rights. Figaro vows to outsmart him. Meanwhile, others – including Dr. Bartolo and Marcellina – plot to prevent the wedding for their own reasons. The young pageboy Cherubino, in love with all women, gets caught in the chaos and is sent away to join the army.
Act II
The Countess’s Room. Heartbroken by her husband’s infidelity, the Countess joins Figaro and Susanna in planning a clever trap. They’ll trick the Count into thinking his wife has a secret lover. Disguises and hiding places lead to confusion when the Count returns unexpectedly. Though the plan mostly works, the Count remains suspicious. Bartolo and Marcellina arrive to demand that Figaro marry Marcellina due to an old contract.
Act III
The Palace Hall. In court, the Count rules that Figaro must marry Marcellina – but it’s soon revealed she is his long-lost mother. With this surprise reunion, the marriage plan is dropped. Meanwhile, Susanna and the Countess write a fake love letter to lure the Count into the final trap. The wedding begins, and Susanna discreetly delivers the letter to the Count.
Act IV
The Garden. Later that night in the garden, Susanna and the Countess switch clothes to confuse the Count. He tries to seduce “Susanna,” not knowing it’s actually his wife. Figaro, initially jealous, realizes what’s going on and plays along. When identities are revealed, the Count is humbled and asks for forgiveness. Harmony is restored, and the celebration continues.
