OperaVision gives a platform to the next generation of talent. Here we travel to Oper Frankfurt to discover its work nurturing young orchestral musicians through the Paul Hindemith Orchestra Academy. Interviews with the scholarship holders and board members give a picture of the everyday life and challenges of these young performers. In the short documentary (below), we accompany the scholarship holders during orchestra rehearsals, workshops and preparations for the chamber music concert (itself available above from 16 December 2022), which offers a programme of works by McKee, Mendelssohn, Mozart and Rota.

How best to close the gap between studying in conservatoire and working in an orchestra? The musicians of the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester are committed to giving the next generation of artists such opportunities to develop themselves further, to gain insights into the working life of an opera and concert orchestra. For this reason, they founded the Paul Hindemith Academy at the beginning of the 2015/16 season. Ten scholarship holders (five string players and five wind players) are now accepted each season. Individual lessons by dedicated orchestra members, career development workshops, regular auditions, and mental training and participation in opera and concert performances prepare these young artists as best as possible for their careers in music.
