A 6-part video series by Oper Frankfurt gets to the bottom of these questions. The focus is on the Opernstudio and the Paul Hindemith Academy of Oper Frankfurt.

Rehearsing two roles in a foreign language in just a few weeks – not an easy job! In this episode of Young Artists at Oper Frankfurt, we accompany the young soprano Karolina Bengtsson as she prepares for the revival of Leoš Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen. We already got to know the Swedish soprano in episode 3, where we introduced the Opera Studio. In the meantime, Karolina Bengtsson has joined the ensemble - just like some talented singers before her. This revival features six other colleagues who trained at Oper Frankfurt's Opera Studio. In this episode, you can experience different perspectives on the work of the Opera Studio and its graduates.

The Opera Studio - Young Artists at Oper Frankfurt

As part of our focus on Young Artists at Oper Frankfurt, this film features the Opera Studio of Oper Frankfurt. Founded in 2008, the Opera Studio is now one of the most renowned centres for talent development in the German-language opera sector. The episode focuses on scholarship holders Nombulelo Yende and Karolina Bengtsson, whom we accompany as they prepare for the Opera Studio Soirée. In this documentary episode, they talk about how they experienced their first year at the Opera Studio, the challenges of their job, and what keeps them motivated every day. 

 

The Opera Studio has a long-standing collaboration with internationally renowned teachers who pass on their knowledge to the young artists in masterclasses. The interview and masterclass with Neil Shicoff is therefore one of the highlights of this episode, in which you get an exclusive insight into the intensive coaching work of the scholarship holders in the run-up to the Soirée.

Paul Hindemith Orchestra Academy - Young Artists at Oper Frankfurt

How best to close the gap between studying in conservatoire and working in an orchestra? The musicians of the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester are committed to giving the next generation of artists such opportunities to develop themselves further, to gain insights into the working life of an opera and concert orchestra. For this reason, they founded the Paul Hindemith Academy at the beginning of the 2015/16 season. Ten scholarship holders (five string players and five wind players) are now accepted each season. Individual lessons by dedicated orchestra members, career development workshops, regular auditions, and mental training and participation in opera and concert performances prepare these young artists as best as possible for their careers in music.
