Poznań Opera for Jawnuta

REDISCOVERED WORK

OperaVision has been on a journey to discovery many of Stanisław Moniuszko’s operas thanks to our two Polish partners in Warsaw and Poznań. Poznań Opera staging of the rarely performed Jawnuta wins the rediscovered work award. This production was shown live on OperaVision on its opening night in December 2022.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES & IMPACT

This category recognises the extensive work being done by both opera companies and arts charities to ensure opera is truly an art form for all - and that everyone feels welcome, both in the audience and on the stage. Founding partner of OperaVision, La Monnaie/De Munt in Brussels impressed the judges by its commitment to putting access for all at the centre of its artistic project, as in the production Push, their recently commissioned opera from Howard Moody for mixed youth and adult choruses.

Dutch National Opera

SUSTAINABILITY

The sustainability award is a category newly introduced last year, in recognition of the pressing need for opera companies to consider their impact on the environment. Another founding OperaVision partner, Dutch National Opera wins the award this year for their wide-ranging environmental programmes - even include attracting a sparrow colony to their buildings.

WORLD PREMIERE

Dutch National Opera also won the World Premiere Award for Alexander Raskatov’s Animal Farm, based on Orwell’s novella.

Festival d'Aix-en-Provence

FESTIVAL OF THE YEAR

Founding partner in OperaVision, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence won the award for Festival of the Year. OperaVision went back to Aix this summer to complete its Rossini festival line-up. You can enjoy the full performance of Il turco in Italia below until Christmas 2023.

Barrie Kosky

DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR

Director Award goes to Barrie Kosky whose new productions include an acclaimed Dialogues of the Carmelites at Glyndebourne and a Ring Cycle at Covent Garden. No stranger to OperaVision, many of Barrie’s opening nights at Komische Oper Berlin have been streamed live on OperaVision. As well as being a brilliant director, he is also an accomplished pianist, as he showed here as part of a Gala OperaVision stream during confinement in 2020.

Lisette Oropesa's French Bel Canto Arias

RECORDING ‘SOLO RECITAL’

Lisette Oropesa's award for the best solo recital confirms her status as one of the outstanding sopranos of her generation. OperaVision has long followed the career of Lisette. Here she is singing bel canto, this time of the Italian variety.

Andrzej Filończyk

YOUNG SINGER OF THE YEAR

After winning first prize in the male vocal category of the Stanisław Moniuszko International Vocal Competition in 2016, Polish baritone Andrzej Filończyk comes back to Warsaw to be crowned Young Singer of the Year. He is one of the many young talents to have been showcased on OperaVision in recent years. Here is an extract of him performing at the 2020 OperaVision Summer Gala.
