International Opera Awards 2025
Greek National Opera is host of the 2025 International Opera Awards ceremony. Live from Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre in Athens, OperaVision streams the complete ceremony featuring an exciting array of categories and performances by featured artists.
Founded in 2012 and known as opera’s Oscars, the International Opera Awards are the annual celebration of excellence in the international opera scene. The awards aim to recognise and reward success, create scholarships for emerging talent and raise the profile of opera. This year's jury, composed of opera professionals, is chaired by John Allison, editor of Opera with Opera News magazine.

Best Director: Andreas Homoki
Opera Company of the Year: Opernhaus Zürich
Andreas Homoki is nominated for Best Director. Discover his staging of The Tales of Hoffmann at Opernhaus Zürich, one of this year’s Opera Company nominees!
Female Singer of the Year: Asmik Grigorian
Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian is nominated for Best Female Singer this year. Her performance in Il trittico has been acclaimed as one of the most outstanding seen and heard at Opéra de Paris in recent years.
Best Designer: takis
Nominated in the Best Designer category, takis has recently staged Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury at Scottish Opera. Enjoy the full performance below.
Best Festival: Rossini Opera Festival
Will the Rossini Opera Festival, a long-standing partner of OperaVision, win the award for best festival? For two weeks each summer, Accademia Rossiniana Alberto Zedda attracts the brightest belcanto stars of the future to Pesaro as part of the festival. Enjoy the final concert of the academy below.

Best Festival: Janáček Brno Festival
Janáček Brno Festival is also nominated for Best Festival. Amongst their productions, The Excursions of Mr. Brouček is one of the shortlisted New Productions at the International Opera Awards. The full performance is no longer streaming, but extracts and backstage videos are still available on OperaVision.
Rising Star: Deepa Johnny
Rising Star nominee Deepa Johnny can be seen as Carmen at Opéra de Rouen Normandie, in a production supported by Palazzetto Bru Zane and faithful to the original costumes, sets and staging of the 1875 premiere.
Rising Star: Carles Pachón
Baritone Carles Pachón, nominated as Rising Star, sings Belcore in Garsington Opera’s L’elisir d’amore, streaming on OperaVision.
World Premiere: Don Juan no existe
Nominated in the World Premiere category, Don Juan no existe by young composer Helena Cánovas is streaming on OperaVision from 8 November.
World Premiere: Natasha
Coming our way from Tokyo, Natasha, another exciting world premiere, has made it onto this year’s list of nominees. Save the date for its OperaVision premiere on 12 December.
